Mumbai Man Saves 3 lives with Organ Donation

A man from Mulund, Mumbai, donated his organs to three people after he suffered a brain injury from a fall and was declared brain dead. The man, an entrepreneur, was admitted to Fortis Hospital Mulund, where his family consented to donate his liver and kidneys. The Zonal Transplant Coordination Centre (ZTCC) assigned the liver to a 69-year-old man from Palthan, Satara, who was treated at Fortis Hospital Mulund. Dr Gaurav Gupta, Dr Kapildev Yadav, and Dr Prashant Kadam performed the retrieval and transplant.

Fortis performs Mumbai’s first liver transplant of 2025 with 21km green corridor enabled by Mumbai Police

The Mumbai Police and traffic officials made it possible for the organ to travel 21 kilometers in 20 minutes via a green corridor from Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital (in Andheri) to Fortis Hospital Mulund. After Mumbai’s second cadaveric donation on January 12, 2025, the clinical team at Fortis Hospital Mulund successfully enabled its first cadaveric organ transplant of 2025. A 63-year-old donor from another city hospital gave the ultimate gift of life to a 29-year-old recipient who had been diagnosed with acute liver failure.

Fortis Hospital Mulund marked a significant achievement with the successful completion of its first cadaveric organ transplant of 2025, following the second cadaveric donation in Mumbai on January 12th. A 29-year-old recipient, diagnosed with acute liver failure, received a liver transplant from a 63-year-old donor. The donor, who was declared brain-dead after suffering from an acute intracranial hemorrhage, was from another hospital in the city.
