A 46-year-old man donates his liver and kidneys to three recipients after brain death.
A man from Mulund, Mumbai, donated his organs to three people after he suffered a brain injury from a fall and was declared brain dead. The man, an entrepreneur, was admitted to Fortis Hospital Mulund, where his family consented to donate his liver and kidneys.
The Zonal Transplant Coordination Centre (ZTCC) assigned the liver to a 69-year-old man from Palthan, Satara, who was treated at Fortis Hospital Mulund. Dr Gaurav Gupta, Dr Kapildev Yadav, and Dr Prashant Kadam performed the retrieval and transplant.
One kidney was assigned to a 39-year-old man from Thane, Mumbai, who was also at Fortis Hospital Mulund. Dr Ramesh Mahajan retrieved and transplanted the kidney. The other kidney was sent to another hospital in Mumbai.
Dr S Narayani, Business Head, Fortis Hospitals, Maharashtra, said, “The family showed generosity that enabled three transplants. We are grateful for their act. We thank our teams and ZTCC Mumbai for their roles.”
This was the 44th organ donation in Mumbai and the eighth at Fortis Hospital Mulund in 2023.
